Festive footwear: what to wear at those holidays parties

festive footwear guide

You're probably one of the many women/girls who can't decide what shoes to wear at the parties you about to attend. Don't worry, it happens to all of us! I have prepared a collection of things you should consider when deciding what shoes to wear. Consider them more as guidelines than rules.

The key is to find the shoe that goes with the dress, with the type of party you're attending and with the message you want to deliver. This is up to you, of course, because no one can find the magic solution for all. But I can tell you how I decide what shoes to wear on holiday parties.

Sometimes I make the outfit starting from the shoes, because lets say I bought a gorgeous new pair and this would be the perfect opportunity to wear them. But usually it doesn't happen like that. Usually you buy a new dress and you're driving yourself crazy picking the shoes. Let's face it, it's difficult finding a pair that makes a statement, but also complement your dress and be appropriate for a get together with friends and family or work colleagues. ALL at the same time.

I love very high heels. But since I don't find them appropriate for work (where I spend most of my time) I can't really enjoy this pleasure of mine. Therefore, at every party I tend to wear the highest pair I own, or buy the highest pair possible. Another important factor is the fact that they have to be somehow out of the ordinary: studs, electric colours, special fabric, bows, glitter, a very special cut or a very special heel. You get the idea: something that makes them pop out of the crowd of black shiny shoes. This means of course that I would wear a rather simple dress, because you can't have both of them screaming "look at me!", it would be too much.
Also, with a holiday party I like to experiment meaning that I have the tendancy to try something new, something I wouldn't wear regularly: animal print, glitter, very strappy sandals, shoes with lots of flowers and bows ecc. It's all about pushing my limits. But, there are times when I go for classy shoes: velvet as fabric, a little bit of glitter here and there and so on. It all depends on where and with who I go to.

This year I have an obsession with red suede platform shoes. They never go out of style, they're classy but daring at the same time and you can pair them with many styles of dresses. So my dilemma is solved!

Now, I thought of showing you some shoes that I find suitable for these events. I really hope they will be useful for you, helping you decide what's best for your feet this year. For today's post I have chosen only Romanian designer shoes. So here we go:

How do you chose your shoes for the holiday parties? Which of the ones I chose would you wear?
Tune in tomorrow as there will be a selection of high-fashion designer shoes!

Heel Condoms - the fun way to keep your shoes safe!

The Heel Condoms is a fun but also useful invention that these people came up with to spice up the relationship you have with your shoes.
Aside from being inventive and fun, the heel condoms have also some perks: easy to take on travels, they are easy to use, they protect the heels from damages, you can match them to your outfits and also they're a great conversation starter. What I like best about them is the fact that they can help you fall in love again with the shoes you haven't been wearing in quite some time. These little savers can make you feel like wearing a totally new shoe when you put them on your old black pumps. Or when you slip them on the pumps you wore at work just before hitting the club.  And the possibilities are endless.

They come in a wide variety of colours and fabrics. My favourites are the ones in leopard print and bow, the ones in black and red lace and the ones in yellow with silver sequins. The prices are between 20-40$, so they're some affordable genius wonder makers.

What do you think? Like them?

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony - the Shoes

Chloe Sevigny is one of those celebritries with an extremly original and iconic personal style. She is adored and praised by teenagers, young ladies, fashion designers and stylists all together. Therefore, it's no wonder Opening Ceremony has offered her the chance to design a special line for them. Their first collection in collaboration was back in 2008.

Nowadays, girls in love with fashion like Andreea from Thrill of the heel, who inspired this article, are all talking about the Pre-Spring 2011 collection that Chloe Sevigny has designed for Opening Ceremony. Featuring a lot of animal print, polka dots and floral prints, the pieces are a tribute to the roaring 90s and the edgy style they portrait.

As for the shoes, they're not something anyone can chew. With a lot of wooden platforms, chunky heels, country-inspired boots (something Nicolette, her character from Big Love, would be seen wearing), lace ups and rubber wedges, these shoes have that american vibe to them that is so catchy and irresistible. They come in black, tan and navy for each shoe and you can also choose between several colours for the heel/wedge, which makes you feel like you're customizing the shoe as you wish.

They're a bit pricy, but since they're available for pre-order only at this point, maybe you've got time to save something in a couple of months, right?

These shoes are also continuing the trend that Jeffrey Campbell and Jessica Simpson started when they launched and made popular among hype young ladies the chunky footwear of the 90s.

You can enjoy below my selection:

 Mary Ellen

I also like a lot the names they gave the shoes. Inspired by Mary Jane, the name used for a certain style of shoes, they played with the names and the styles, creating characters for each of them. The names are so inspired that I can picture American ladies named like this who wear this type of shoes on a daily basis, as a belief. Also, I keep thinking of the Big Love girls everytime see these shoes. Pretty good branding, right?

What do you think? Like them? Would you wear them?

Shoe obsession: YSL Tribtoo Suede Pumps

The YSL Tribtoos are one of the most iconic shoes out there. They are somehow that kind of shoe that everybody knows about, which give the lucky lady wearing them a certain special status. They are very popular among celebrities and every fashionista is secretely dreaming of having her closet full of them. They are, if you wish, the Kelly (Hermes) bag of the shoe world.

Now, imagine my surprise when I discovered them today on Net-a-porter in a colour which makes them even more adorable and mind blowing than before: emerald deep green. They are absolutely gorgeous and worth more than a bag of diamonds (well, not really, only obsession-wise).

available for purchase here

Gorgeous, right? What do you think? Would you ever wear these babies? Or sleep with them tight in your arms?

Xmas on Heels - Sepala and RSM special edition collection - the photos

Remember last week's good news about the Xmas on Heels special collection launched by Mihaela Glavan and Ovidiu Buta for Sepala and RSM? We enjoyed the video created especially for this collection and now it is time to have a closer look at the festive shoes which will make Christmas happen for your feet too!

And also the bags to complete your look:

I like the fabrics Mihaela has used - saten, suede, some discrete sequins/strass. What I like most in this collection is the femininity that the shoes celebrate through the colours, the fabrics and most of all the cuts.  The sandals from the Xmas on Heels collection are cut in such a way that they serve the ultimate purpose:  complementing a woman's look and personality.

What do you think? Are you interested? Which one if your favourite? I love the ciclamen platform sandals and the red pointy pumps (so classy!).
